What if my cake gets damaged?

What if my cake gets damaged?

The Secret Bakery accepts no liability for cakes that are damaged after they have been delivered to the agreed location.

For cakes delivered to wedding venues, The Secret Bakery will provide a photograph as proof to say that the cake has arrived and that it arrived in perfect condition.

Cakes that are collected from The Secret Bakery premisses have been checked to meet the standards of the bakery.   On collection the customer consents that it has been collected in perfect condition by accepting the cake and removing it from the premises. Damages after this point are not The Secret Bakery’s responsibility.

Cakes can be fragile and require care and attention when handling, storing and displaying to prevent damage occurring.

Please take care when displaying your cake to avoid direct sunlight, spotlights or candles creating damage to the cake decorations.  Hand-painted cakes are especially vulnerable to heat and light damage.  All The Secret Bakery’s cakes are designed to withstand normal and reasonable display conditions.

The Secret Bakery accepts no liability for cakes that are damaged during display or transportation by the customer.

What is your allergen information?

What is your allergen information?

All allergy and dietary requirements should be conveyed at the beginning of  your cake enquiry.

Unless otherwise specified all The Secret Bakery cakes contain butter, gluten (wheat) and eggs and are made in an environment that handles nuts, soya and alcohol.   Nut-free, gluten-free, dairy-free and alcohol-free cakes can be made on request but we cannot guarantee that these cakes will not contain trace amounts of these ingredients due to the nature of production.

The Secret Bakery accepts no liability for customers suffering allergic reactions from eating our cakes.

It is the customer’s responsibility to make The Secret Bakery aware of any special dietary requirements that need to be accommodated in the making of their cake.

How is it best to store my cakes?

How is it best to store my cakes?

It is best to store your cakes at room temperature, not too hot and not too cold.  They are best kept in the box they came in or in a metal tin.  We recommend you do not keep your cakes in a plastic container as this will cause the cake and fondant to get a soggy texture.  Be sure not to put fondant iced cakes or cupcakes in the fridge as this will also cause the fondant to go soggy and wet.  Also, the cold fridge will make our amazingly smooth buttercream hard to eat!

Do you hire out cake stands?

Do you hire out cake stands?

Yes we do!

We have a small selection of stands for you to hire.  All we require is a refundable deposit and the cake stand to be returned no less than two weeks after collection.  Obviously if the stand is damaged or lost then unfortunately the deposit will be retained by The Secret Bakery for replacement of the stand.

How long will my cupcakes stay fresh for?

How long will my cupcakes stay fresh for?

On the rare occasion that our Secret Bakery cupcakes are not gobbled up right away they will be perfectly fine in their box for 1-2 days at room temperature but of course we recommend eating them on the day you buy them.  Our cupcakes don’t do so well in the fridge since the cold air causes the sponge and fresh buttercream to become firm.  We don’t use preservatives that would exist in shop bought cupcakes so really you should expect them to last as long as a home baked cake.

How much notice do I have to give for an order?

How much notice do I have to give for an order?

The earlier the better!

We really want to make your cake for you, so for celebration cakes we would suggest that you plan ahead and book as soon as possible.  Usually to prepare for a celebration cake we would need at least 2 to 3 weeks but we do manage to fit some in that are booked just a few days before.

For wedding cake orders ideally we like to have at least six months notice, however some clients have booked with us as soon as they have set their date.  We will try our best to accommodate your request no matter how short notice but it will of course depend on our current workload and availability.

We do tend to be particularly busy in the summer months and around Christmas time, so we advise booking early if you require a cake at this time.
